27. Sawvers. On the verge of the 19th and 20th centuries firewood was the only source of warmth for at least a quarter of a million of Riga’s inhabitants as coal was too expensive. Firewood was sold in Riga at more than 160 trading centres, woodyards, woodsheds and cellars.
