3. Leptobarbus hoevenii.
Hemibarbus maculatus.
1. Inhabits waters of South-East and South Asia. Females bulkier and more colourless. Food: 8096 animal and 2096 vegetable. Sexually matures at 3 years. Intermittent spawning. Phytophil. Fecundity up to 50,000 eggs. Incubation period 3 days. Care and
oreeding common for Asiatic Barbs. Longevity, 10 years. Close species: L. melanopterus— 30 cm (Borneo Island).
2. Inhabits the Amur River, found in China and Korea. Males brighter and slimmer than females. Zoophagous. Sexually matures at 3 to 4 years, while body length is 25 cm. Spawning seasonal (3 batches). Fecundity 40,000 to 120,000 eggs (d—2 mm). Phytophyl. incubation period. 3.5 days at 24° C, 5 to 7 days later the young start swimming. Longevity, 8 to I0 years. Care: dH 2 to 20°, pH 6.5-8.0, temperature, 10 to 30° C, etc. Close species: H. labeo— up to 63 cm, H. longirostris—— 16 cm and H. barbus—45 cm.
