Family Characins — (Characidae)
Inhabit the waters of South America. Main colouring of Bloodfins is silvery blue, the anal and caudal fins are red, while in Ruby Bloodfin the body parts adjoined to these fins are also red. The Amazonian Glass Bloodfin has transparent cover tissues and red caudal fin. Bohlke’s Tetra is bluish-violet, with white tipped fins. Penguin tetras have a black longitudinal band zigzagging
to the tip of the lower caudal fin. Size up to 5—6 cm. Care and breeding as for all Characoids. Fecundity from several hundred eggs (Bloodfins) to 1,000 and more in Black-line Penguin Tetras. Feeding of juveniles not difficult.
