Family Characins — (Characidae)
Inhabit the waters of Brazil and Guiana. Brass Tetra resembles Hyphessobrycon scholtzi, which has a black longitudinal band (lower photo, right above). Garnet Tetra has two luminous blotches behind the gill covers and on the caudal fin. Pristella maxillaris has a black ocellus with a white border on the dorsal fin, while Silver-tipped Tetra (formerly classified as Hemigrammus) has a copper-red body; the dorsal, anal and the tips of the caudal fin have white borderings. Size no more than 4—5 cm. Care as for Neon Tetras, but somewhat simpler. Spawning in pairs.
