Steatocranus tinanti (Lion-Head Cichlid) inhabits the Congo River basin. Kept in the USSR by aquarists since 1981. The male is greyish-to-dove-coloured, a fatty gibbosity on the head is more developed than those of the female. The female is smaller: dorsal and anal fin endings are not as pointed as on the male. Length, 8 to 15 cm. Live food of all kinds. Sexually mature at 11 to 13 months. Spawning in pairs. Fecundity up to 100 eggs. In 14 days. the fry start swimming and feeding on small plankton. The young are similar to the adults in colour pattern. Water conditions: dGH to 12°, pH 6.8—7.5, temperatures 24 to 27° C, aeration, filtration.
