Pseudotropheus spec. ‘‘camaeleo’’ inhabits Lake Malawi. Kept in the USSR by aquarists since 1978. The male is black-brown with pointed anal and dorsal fins. The female is smaller and bright-yellow with dark vertical stripes. Length, 8 to 15 cm. Food: vegetable and animal in equal correlation. Sexually mature at 11 to 13 months. Spawning in pairs. Fecundity up to 110 eggs. Incubation period 17 to 21 days. Relationship of males and females in the brood is 1:3. Feeding commences with small plankton. The young are similar to the female in colour pattern. Water conditions are the same as for Lake Malawi Cichlids. Hybridization possible with similarly coloured species.
