Labidochromis freibergi (Freiberg’s Labidochromis) inhabits Lake Malawi. Kept in the USSR by aquarists since 1978. The male is light-coloured with wide violet-blue cross-stripes, the head and the fins are violet. The female is smaller and grey-blue. Length, 6 to 10 cm. Food: 30% vegetable and 70% animal. Sexually mature at 9 to 11 months. Spawning in pairs. Fecundity up to 50 eggs. Incubation period 17 to 21 days. Feeding commences with small plankton. The young are similar to the female in colour pattern. Water conditions are the same as for Lake Malawi Cichlids. This species should not be kept with larger species similarly coloured.
