Haplochromis livingstonii (Livingston’s Hap) inhabits Lake Malawi. Kept in the USSR by aquarists since 1976. The male is darkblue to sky-blue. The female is light-coloured with large brown spots on the body. Length, 12 to 25 cm. Food: 30% vegetable and 70% animal. Sexually mature at 9 to 11 months. Spawning in pairs. Fecundity up to 120 eggs. Incubation period 16 to 18 days. Feeding commences with small plankton. The young are similar to the female in colour pattern. Water conditions are the same as for Lake Malawi Cichlids. Hybridization possible with H. polystigma and other species similar in colouration.
