Cichlasoma labiatum. (Red Devil) inhabits waters of Nicaragua. Kept in the USSR by aquarists since 1981. The fishes are orange-yellow, or, rarely, blood-red. Dark spots on the edges of the fins. The male is larger, with a big forehead. Length, 15 to 25 cm. Live food of all kinds. Sexually mature at 12 to 15 months. Spawning in pairs. Fecundity up to 1,000 eggs. Incubation period 3 to 4 days, in 4 to 5 days the fry start swimming and feeding on small plankton. The young are greyish-yellow with dark spots. Water conditions: dGH to 15°, pH 6.8—7.8, temperatures 24 to 27° C, aeration, filtration. A tank of 200-litre capacity is necessary.
