Aulonocara spec. ‘‘chilumba"’ inhabits Lake Malawi. Kept in the USSR by aquarists since 1981. The male is bright-blue with yellowish-orange stains on the fins. The female is smaller than the male, bronze-grey with dark crossstripes. Length, 7 to 15 cm. Food: 20% vegetable and 80% animal. Sexually mature at 11 to 13 months. Spawning in pairs. Fecundity up to 70 eggs. Incuba-
tion period 17 to. 21 days. Feeding commences with small plankton. The young are similar to the female in colour pattern. Water conditions are the same as for Lake Malawi Cichlids. Forms bybrids with other species similar in colouring. Maybe its A, njassae form.
