Petrotilapia tridentiger (Tridentiger) inhabits Lake Malawi. Kept in the USSR
by aquarists since 1978. The male is sky-blue to dark-blue with orange-red
veins on the fins. The female is smaller and brownish-yellow. Length, 8 to
20 cm. Food: 80% vegetable and 20% animal. Sexually mature at 10 to 12 months.
Spawning in pairs. Fecundity up to 100 eggs. Incubation period 17 to 21 days.
Feeding commences with small plankton. The young are brownish with vertical
bars. Water conditions are the same as for Lake Malawi Cichlids (dGH 8—20°,
pH 7.2—8.5, temperatures 23 to 26° C, aeration, filtration). Monotypic genus.
