Telmatochromis bifrenatus (Svelte Telmatochromis) inhabits rocky biotops of Lake Tanganyika. Kept in the USSR by aquarists since 1975. The male is yellowish with longitudinal coffee-coloured stripes on the body and fins. The female is smaller, plumper and less colourful. Length, 5 to 8 cm. Live food of all kinds. Sexually mature at 12 to 14 months. Spawning in pairs in shelter. Fecundity up to 50 eggs. Incubation period about 14 days. Feeding commences with small plankton. The young are greyish-yellow with dark stripes. Water conditions: dGH 8—20°, pH 8,0—9,0, temperatures 24 to 26° C, aeration, filtration and replacement of water.
