Uaru amphiacanthoides (Triangle Cichild) inhabits the Amazon River basin. Kept in the USSR by aquarists since 1977. Colouration is yellow-brown with a large triangular black spot; the fins are dove-coloured. The male is larger, with a prominent
forehead. Length, 15 to 26 cm. Food: 80% vegetable and 20% animal. Sexually mature at 16 to 18 months. Spawning in pairs. Fecundity up to 300 eggs. Incubation period 3 to 4 days. Feeding commences with mucus secretion from the skin of the parents and small plankton. The young are gfreyish-blue with light spots. Care and breeding are the same as for discus: dGH to 12°, pH 6.0—7.2, temperatures 25 to 29° C, aeration, replacement and filtration of water.
