30. The Riga Port has developed along with the city. The strengthening of the Daugava embankment is known to have s:arted in 1297. On the postcard — the stone embankment built between 1888 and 1891. Before the construction of the Railway Bridge in 1872 ships went as far as the so-called Sarkanie Spīķeri (Red Warehouses) where the goods of the port were stored.
