Text on the back of the postcard:
Svéta Gara Konventa Séta; now Konventa Séta (the Courtyard of the Holy Ghost Convent; now Convent Courtyard). In the early 13th century the first castle of the Sword Brotherhood Order was built here. After 1297 when the castle was reduced to ruins by Riga’s inhabitants only the walls (to the right) of Jura Kapela (the Holy Jura Chapel, later a church) were partly preserved. In the centre — the steeple of St. Peter’s Church. In history this edifice was first mentioned in 1209. Its construction was going on till the 15th century, it was rebuilt in the 17th century. In 1690 the wooden spire in Baroque style was completed (R. Bindenschu's project) and restored in 1746 after the fire in 1721. Once this spire (burnt down in 1941) was one of the highest wooden constructions. The back of the cock mounted on it was 120.7 m above earth.
